PROGRESS IN MY CITY

HOW IT ALL STARTED

The first photo of this parking sign was captured on August 4th, 2025. When I first noticed this sign, I was simply appreciating the faded texture of the paint and the weathering that had taken place.

I was inspired to make this first post on the website titled PROGRESS, and here is the results update post!

I passed by this sign nearly a month later on September 2nd while it was getting a paint refresh. This is what sparked the idea for a new photo series called PROGRESS, where I seek to document and archive progress being made in my city.

When I saw the artist at work, capturing the same details, and adding new life to the sign, the moment was too real and too pure not to take another photo.

I circled back on my ebike. Luckily the artist at work did not mind me any attention, and kept painting.

In this moment I realized that if I see something interesting, taking a photo of it is so important, because this could always change.

In this instance, the paint refresh seems to have also brought forth a new business name and phone number too! The original business name in the first photo is Design Upholstery Inc. and now on the sign it reads Miro Upholstery Inc. so this could indicate new ownership or just a company rebrand. The phone line seems to have also changed, which was previously ending in 0099 and now it is ending with 4300. This is also on the painter’s shirt, so it is extra special to me that a contractor or painting company was not hired to do this, it is real work done by the small business owners and workers. Not only that, but the job was done right. The paint looks great. Definitely a successful paint refresh here! I love my city!
